Convert an Axial-Only Testing Machine into a Biaxial Testing System

Designed for simple, simultaneous axial and torsional testing, the new Torsion Add-On 2.0 increases the capabilities of your lab – allowing you to expand product development capabilities and simulate real-world applications of your products. For many international standards, such as ISO 11040-4, ISO 80369, and ASTM F543, both axial and torsional control is required, allowing you to consolidate required equipment and streamline the testing process. It’s perfect for testing the performance of a variety of consumer products, packaging, medical devices, electronics, and automotive components.

Torsion Test of Child-Proof Medical Packaging

✔ SIMULATE REAL-WORLD USE OF YOUR PRODUCT
Functional testing is all about simulating real-world use of your product. Many consumer products, especially packaging for pharmaceuticals, food, makeup, etc. are subjected to simple multi-axis loading. Ensuring the consistent quality of the end user experience is vital for long-term product growth and success.

✔ SPEED-UP PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
When developing new products in the medical device and electronics industries, ensuring product durability under biaxial loading is crucial. Many companies isolate axial-only and torsional-only testing. However, by combining both tests, laboratories can decrease total test time and speed up the product development process.

✔ FREE-UP LAB BENCHTOP SPACE
Benchtop space is valuable real estate for many labs – and those that perform axial-only and torsional-only tests on separate machines can free up space by adding torsion capabilities to their traditionally axial-only machine.

Torsion Add-on Luer Lock Testing

Luer Lock Connections

Luer connections are universally used on medical devices to ensure secure leak-free connections and as such require rigorous testing. ISO 80369 outlines the procedures to properly test the functionality of these devices and requires biaxial testing to characterize the Luer connection. The Torsion Add-on is ideal for performing these tests and can meet the requirements laid out in all testing annexes.

Torsion Add-On Childproof Packaging Torsion Testing

Medical and Consumer Packaging

Packaging is the end user’s first touchpoint with a product, and as such, it leaves an important impression. Being able to accurately characterize and test packaging is extremely important for ensuring consistency in both secureness of the packaging and ease of opening. Many packages require simultaneous axial and torsional forces to properly test, including pharmaceutical bottles tested in accordance to ASTM D7860. The Torsion Add-On can provide more realistic testing to develop high-quality packaging.

Dual Column Torsion Add On Testing Medical Tubing

Medical Tubing

Medical tubing is used in a variety of applications and procedures. Navigating through a complex maze of arterial cavities, tubing and guidewires will experience both axial and torsional forces pressing against the arterial wall. The Torsion Add-On can be used to evaluate the biaxial properties of these products to prevent failures from occurring during a procedure and potentially causing harm to a patient.

Torsion Bone Screw Test on Single Column Universal Testing System

Bone Screws

Bone screws are used in surgical procedures for securing implants, osteosynthesis devices or fracture fixation plates to the skeletal system. In normal clinical use, a surgeon applies combined axial and torsional forces to the bone screw as they are implanted within the body. The Torsion Add-On is capable of testing bone screws in accordance with ASTM F543 to determine mechanical properties and evaluate new designs and materials.

Torsion Testing of Buttons and Switches

Buttons and Switches

Many products utilize buttons and switches in their design, which must go through intensive development. Mechanical testing can be used to characterize the tactical feedback of switches and buttons to optimize the user experience. The Torsion Add-On can easily be programmed to perform these tests, mimicking real world conditions.

Flexible PCB Torsion Testing

Flexible Printed Circuit Boards

Circuit boards are utilized in an increasing number of products and as their demand grows, so does the need for testing. Performing biaxial tests helps manufacturers ensure the circuitry inside their products are robust and can withstand long-term use. Torsion Add-On provides the ability quickly develop testing procedures to evaluate the durability of circuit boards.
