Tack Measurement for Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives - Loop Tack (EN 1719)

Many adhesives have an adhesive strength, or stickiness, which varies based on the pressure applied when the bond is made. The loop tack test is performed by manufacturers and end users of pressure-sensitive adhesives, and indicates results such as the adhesive strength. The EN 1719 test method uses polyester film or paper test samples coated with adhesive and cured.

The prepared specimen is loaded into a testing machine, and gripped using either a screw or pneumatic grip. The loop is then brought into contact with a metal or glass plate until a defined area of adhesive is in contact with the plate, or a defined load is reached. As soon as this limit is reached the direction is immediately reversed and the loop is pulled from the substrate, with the maximum force recorded.

We recommend reviewing the standard in full to understand the test fixture and results requirements relevant to the materials and adhesives you are interested in prior to purchasing equipment.
